Language differences can bring some unbelievable jokes. In our daily life, Jokes caused by language differences can be seen everywhere, which make us to be caught in a dilemma. Actually，language differences difference is a presentation of cultural differences. Every Each country has its unique culture and custom，so it inevitably has its own language habit. When we acquire a second language, we need to know the differences of language habit between our mother language and the second language. If the language habit or the cultural differences are not can’t be recognized, there come the jokes. And the followings are two jokes that indicate this kind of culture shock:  

语言差异会引起一些让人难以置信的笑话。在我们的日常生活中，由语言差异所引起的笑话随处可见，这就使得我们经常处在非常尴尬的境地。事实上，语言差异是文化差异的一种表现形式。每个国家都会有自己独特的文化和习俗，这也使得它不可避免地有自己的语言习惯。当我们在习得一门第二语言的时候，我们就有必要去了解母语和第二语言之间语言习惯的差异了。如果这种语言差异没有被学习者所意识到的话，那么笑话就产生了。下面的两则笑话就体现了这种文化冲突：

Joke one：When the Japanese prime minister Yoshiro Mori received American president Clinton，he asked his commander to teach him some English. At the time of reception to American President Clinton, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori asked his commander to teach him some English. But his commander just told him to remember a short dialogue in such an occasion. “How are you？”“---Fine，and you？”“Me， too.” Yoshiro Mori remembered what the commander told him. But on the day when Clinton just got off the plane, Yoshiro Mori was so excited that he said: “Who are you?” instead of “How are you?” Though 去掉Clinton was shocked, but he responded humorously“I’m Hillary’s husband.”Yoshiro Mori answered with no hesitation: “Me, too.”

笑话一：当日本首相森喜朗要接见美国总统克林顿的时候，森喜朗让他的指挥员教他一些英语。但是他的指挥官告诉他在这种场合下只需要说一个对话就好，就是当你见到克林顿的时候就对他说：“How are you？（你好吗？）”之后克林顿会说“Fine， and you？（我很好，你呢？）”到时你再说“Me， too.（我也是。）”就可以了。森喜朗记住了指挥官的话。但是在克林顿下飞机的时候，森喜朗一激动把“How are you（你好吗）”说成了“who are you（你是谁）”。虽然克林顿很是震惊，但是他却很幽默地回答了句“I’m Hillary’s husband（我是希拉里的丈夫）.”但是森喜朗却立即回答“Me, too（我也是）.”

Joke two：When去掉 In an official occasion，a diplomat required her translator to be faithful to every word she said. And So when conversion began，the foreign diplomat politely said politely：“You are very beautiful.” And the our diplomat said:“哪里，哪里！”Because Since the translator was required to be faithful to what the diplomat said, so 去掉he had to say：“Where？where？”The foreign diplomat was embarrassed but had to continue：“eyes, nose，month … everywhere.”The diplomat said：“见笑了，见笑了！”And the translator translated it the way into“You are not allowed to smile，you are not allowed to smile！”

笑话二：一次在一个很正式的场合，某外事员要求翻译员要绝对地忠实自己地原话。当他们开始座谈的时候，对方寒暄地说了句：“you are very beautiful（您很漂亮）。”外事员说“哪里，哪里！”因为翻译员是被要求要绝对忠实原话的，他只好翻译“where（哪里）？ Where（哪里）？” 弄得对方的外交官好不尴尬只好接着说“eyes（眼睛），nose（鼻子），month（嘴）……everywhere（哪里都好看）”。 外交官又说“见笑了，见笑了！”，翻译官只得翻译道“You are not allowed to smile（你不允许笑）， you are not allowed to smile（你不允许笑）.”

Through these two jokes，we can understand that it’s very important the importance to know the differences of language habit between two different cultures. So it’s necessary to have some knowledge understanding about language differences.

通过上面两则笑话，我们可以知道理解两种文化背景下的文化习惯的差异是非常重要的。所以对文化差异的了解是很有必要的。

Foreigners greet each other by saying“Hi；Hello；How are you？…”，while the Chinese use“Have you eat your meal or where are you going …？” When coming back from a trip，the foreigners will say“Did you enjoyed enjoy your trip？”， but Chinese will say“You must be very tired after the long trip.”When somebody is ill，foreigners are tend to say“I’m sorry to hear that. And I suggest …”but the Chinese will say“You can or you should/must/need to …”When receiving a present, foreigners will open it at once and say “Thank you for your present”, while the Chinese will keep it and say“It must cost you a lot.”

外国人见面打招呼总是用“Hi；Hello；How are you？等等”，而中国人打招呼则用“你吃饭了吗或是你上哪儿去？……”；当旅游回来的时候，外国人则会问“你很享受你的旅行吧？”但是中国人会问“你长途归来一定很累吧？”；当有人生病的时候，外国人倾向于说“听到这个我很抱歉，我建议……”但是中国人则更愿意说“你可以/你应该/你必须……”； 当收到礼物时，外国人会当面拆开并且说“谢谢你的礼物”，但是中国人就会把礼物收起来并说“让你破费了。”

So in our daily communication，we’d better pay much more attention to the habit usage of language, in the hope that we can not only learn English well but also use it in the correct situation. LET’S KEEP JOKES AWAY.

所以在我们的日常交际当中，我们需要注意语言的习惯使用，我们不仅要把英语学好，还要会把它使用在正确的场合。让笑话远离我们！
